(Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Urban Meyer is under fire Wednesday afternoon after former ESPN reporter Brett McMurphy dropped a bombshell report that suggests that the Ohio State head coach lied about his knowledge of 2015 domestic violence allegations against wide receivers coach Zach Smith.McMurphy posted text messages between Courtney Smith and Shelley Meyer, in which Shelley Meyer says she’s going to inform her husband of the alleged abuse. Smith says Shelley Meyer never followed up to tell her whether she’d done that.Stadium, which will employ McMurphy in the near future, released an exclusive on-air interview with Smith. In the interview, she was asked whether she believes Meyer should keep his job in the aftermath. It was a complicated answer.Question from @KristenBalboni in @WatchStadium interview: “With Shelley Meyer being aware of everything that was going on and saying that she was going to have to tell Urban, do you think that he knows about all of this?”Courtney Smith: “I believe he does.”— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) August 1, 2018Q: “Do you believe Urban Meyer should remain the head football coach at Ohio State?”Courtney Smith: “That’s a tough question. When somebody is crying out for help, I believe the coach, along with the coach’s wife, have a duty. They have a duty to do something to help.”— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) August 1, 2018Courtney Smith: “I know Shelley did everything she could. I know she did. I firmly believe that at least. I can say she was very supportive and she never made me feel uncomfortable, she never made me feel like I was a threat to her or them by telling her these things. Never.”— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) August 1, 2018Thus far, neither the Meyer family nor Ohio State has issued a statement on the matter. Many are starting to wonder whether Meyer will survive the scandal. If he knew about the alleged abuse back in 2009, heard it was allegedly happening again in 2015 and continued to employ Smith, he’s going to be crushed by the media. We’ll keep you updated.last_img
